5th BRICS Trade and Economic Research Network Meeting: minutes, conclusions and presentations

On March 17th, CGTI-FGV – Center for Global Trade and Investments of Getúlio Vargas Foundation, a think-tank on International Trade held by FGV Sao Paulo School of Economics, organized a workshop with the purpose of discussing potential economic and legal impacts that the new Mega Trade Agreements on the WTO and on BRICS countries. It was a perfect timing for introducing such issues because of the 6th BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in Brazil in July 2014.

In the event, members of the BRICS Trade and Economics Research Network (BRICS-TERN), a group that was established four years ago by five think-tanks from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, debated the effects of the negotiations of Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) on trade flows and on the international trade rules from the perspective of each of the countries concerned.
