Event Info

  • Date: Wednesday, 24 August 2016
  • Location: Johannesburg

On 24 August 2016, the GEG Africa programme held a Study Group event titled: 'Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Infrastructure Financing in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities for Impact.'

Event details

The first session mapped current trends in infrastructure financing within Low-Income Countries (LICs) in Africa while the second session discussed some of the challenges faced by Middle-Income Countries (MICs). Key stakeholders and experts provided insights on the practical experiences of African countries, with a focus on the changes required to make MDB financing more accessible for African LICs and MICs.  The experts’ inputs will ultimately be used to formulate recommendations that can be put forward to the African Development Bank's African Development Fund and the BRICS-led New Development Bank as it conceptualises its Africa Regional Centre.
