hosts a special media briefing on

Setting the Scene: The journey to Durban and BRICS 5

15:00 – 16:30, Monday, 25 March 2013, Suncoast Hotel and Towers , DURBAN

Event Background:

On 26 and 27 March 2013, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa will meet in Durban for the 5th Annual BRICS Summit. The South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) will be in Durban to engage with policymakers and the media.

We will be hosting a short media briefing that seeks to set the scene and tease out some of the hot topics as the five leaders meet behind closed doors. Having attended last week’s official BRICS Academic Forum, SAIIA has a number of fresh insights from the BRICS members.
Our presentation will also include two high school students who participated in the Model BRICS Youth debate. These students, along with 20 of their peers from schools around Gauteng, conducted their own research and crafted the SAIIA BRICS Youth Communique on Saturday, 16 March 2013. They will present their ideas of what the BRICS should be focusing on from a youth perspective, particularly around the proposed BRICS Development Bank.
